Activities

The program at UWC Leirskule is very varied and extensive.

The day is divided into separate programs for morning, afternoon and evening.

The main emphasis of the activities is on outdoor activities such as abseiling, canoeing, kayaking, archery and outdoor kitchens. In addition, the pupils get to try cooking and excursions, not to forget the closing party!

For two evenings, the children will also be able to use the swimming pool at Haugland. The water slide is very popular among the students!

All the activities take place in a safe environment under the guidance of knowledgeable and certified staff and we have a strong focus on all children experiencing mastery and joy by being out in nature.

UWC Leirskule gives the students a unique opportunity to get to know young people from all over the world!

Morning activities

One morning the group is split in two. Half of the students get to try cooking in a storm kitchen, while the other half are out in a canoe. On the second morning, the activities are reversed, so that all pupils can take part in both activities. On one of the days we go to the Jensbua Coastal Culture Center by canoe.

TRIP DAY

We go to the Jensbua Coastal Cultural Center by canoe, and on to a short hike to Lillingstonheimen and Fredensborg Park. Local cultural history and natural geography are the themes of the trip.

OUTDOOR KITCHEN

When we have an outdoor kitchen, we gather the group and go out to Trulsneset. We build fires and storm kitchens, and make pizza and hot chocolate. We gather and enjoy what we have prepared before we go back to the camp school.

CANOE

Canoeing requires cooperation and communication! When we have canoeing, we stay in the bay by the camp school and practice paddling and cooperation through games and exercises.

Afternoon activities

All pupils must choose two of four possible activities in advance, one for each day. See below for what activities you can choose from.

ABSEILING

The students learn about abseiling as a transportation technique in the mountains. Descent from an 18m high rock wall. This is an exciting activity where the pupils really get to feel that tingling sensation in their stomachs.

BUSHCRAFT

Through practical exercises and an introduction, the students learn how to make a log cabin that they can spend the night in, and light a fire without matches!

KAJAKK

KAYAK

Kayaking takes place on the fjord in a safe and clear bay by the camp school. Everyone must wear a wetsuit and paddling vest. You get to learn basic paddling techniques through playing on the lake. This activity also provides opportunities for small swimming trips.

BOGESKYTING

ARCHERY

Vi startar med å gå gjennom korleis ein handterer pil og boge på ein sikker måte, før elevane får skyte nokre prøveskot. Elevane vil skyte i fleire omgangar. Laga konkurrerer mot kvarandre i ulike konkurransar

Evening Activities

At UWC Leirskule there is a lot of activity, even in the evenings!
The students can use the pool facility for 2 evenings. On Wednesday there is an international evening with the students and on Thursday we end with cake and a closing party!

BADELAND

SWIMMING POOL

On Monday and Thursday evenings, everyone has an offer for free swimming. In the beautiful pool facility there is a 25 m pool and water slide. Staff at the camp school are lifeguards.

ONSDAG KVELD

WEDNESDAY EVENING

Wednesday evening is planned for the activity together with the students at UWC RCN. This teaching session is still being planned together with the students, and we must return with more information at the start of the stay.

AVSLUTNINGSFEST

CLOSING PARTY

On the last camp school night, Thursday, there is a joint closing! The classes must prepare entertainment and show each other before there is a quiz and cake. Feel free to invite the students you have met during the week to the closing party!

Weekly program

Through a stay at UWC camp school, the students get the opportunity to participate in a number of exciting and educational outdoor activities. Monday is arrival day and is mostly about information about the camp school and the coming week, as well as getting to know the area and other students who visit the camp school. On Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, the teaching is divided into three blocks; formiddagsaktivitet, ettermiddagsaktivitet og kveldsaktivitet. Friday is departure day and is used for cleaning and packing before departure

We note that small changes to the weekly schedule and activities may occur in the run-up to the camp school stay. We are working on creating an English version of the programme.
