About UWC Red Cross Nordic

UWC Red Cross Nordic is an international secondary school, one of a total of seventeen United World Colleges (UWC) worldwide. We gather the whole world in the small western village of Flekke!

The UWC schools accept students from all over the world, chosen on the basis of personal qualities, without regard to race, religion, political position or ability to pay. The school has an overarching goal of promoting interpersonal respect and compassion. The first UWC school was founded in 1962 in Wales.

At UWC Red Cross Nordic, established in 1995, every year 200 students from over 90 different countries share experiences in the classroom, through activities and in daily life on campus. The school offers further education, International Baccalaureate (IB) and the education lasts 2 years. UWC RCN has a particular focus on promoting knowledge about Nordic values, humanity and the environment.

The school's aim is to facilitate the students to become active, engaged and educate individuals who, through their understanding of intercultural situations, will become a catalyst for positive change. Throughout the 2 years the students are here, great emphasis is also placed on ensuring that everyone, regardless of background and previous experience, should be able to take part in various outdoor activities, as part of Nordic culture.

As representatives of their countries, we want our students to influence in their home countries more understanding, compassion and peace. In short, we want to create a better and more tolerant world.
